ANDREW KILLEEN was born and lives in Birmingham. He studied English at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and has spent most of his career working with homeless and disadvantaged children. In his spare time he makes music, and can occasionally be found performing as a singer, musician and DJ. He supports Birmingham City FC, as karmic punishment for sins in a past life. He published The Father of Locks to critical acclaim in 2009. Its sequel The Khalifah's Mirror was published in April 2012.

ANDRÉS NEUMAN was born in 1977 in Buenos Aires and later moved to Granada, Spain. He has a degree in Spanish Philology from the University of Granada, where he also taught Latin American literature. Neuman was selected as one of Granta’s Best Young Spanish-Language Novelists and was included in Hay Festival’s Bogotá 39 list. He has published numerous novels, short stories, essays and poetry collections. He received the Hiperión Prize for Poetry for El tobogán, and Traveller of the Century won the Alfaguara Prize and the National Critics Prize in 2009.

NII AYIKWEI PARKES is a writer, editor and performance poet. A 2007 recipient of Ghana’s national ACRAG award for poetry and literary advocacy, he is the author of the acclaimed hybrid literary novel, Tail of the Blue Bird (Random House), which was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize and translated into Dutch and German. Nii's Ballast sequence of poems, described in the Guardian as, “An astonishing, powerful remix of history and language” forms part of his latest collection, The Makings of You (Peepal Tree Press).

Ansuman Biswas is a multi-instrumentalist who moves between tabla, hang, flutes, vocals and an astonishing array of prehistoric and newly-invented instruments. He is an experienced interdisciplinary artist working across many different media. Mal Darwen is a guitarist, bass player and has spent much of the last 20 years playing with many artists and bands in the UK and internationally. When not with Newanderthal, Mal can often be found accompanying songwriters in the clubs and bars of London. Tom Green on the Array Mbira, has worked with and remixed artists as diverse as The Orb, Baka Beyond, Abdul TJ, and Natacha Atlas, and his own project, Another Fine Day (www.anotherfineday.co.uk) played the Big Chill festival 16 years in a row. Tom's 1994 album 'Life Before Land' has become an ambient classic and was voted No 3 in The Independent's "Greatest Ambient Albums" chart in 2007. Haymanot Tesfa is from Ethiopia and now lives in London. She has been singing for 15 years and has worked with different musicians in Ethiopia and the UK. She is also an artist, painter and writer.
